Stray light

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011465

Any light reaching the detector in a spectroscopic instrument that is outside the nominal wavelength or wavenumber range intended for measurement. This unwanted radiation can originate from imperfections in optical components, scattering within the instrument, or incomplete filtering. Stray light can lead to inaccuracies in absorbance or transmittance measurements, especially at high absorbance values.
