Ceilometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001773
A device that measures the height of a cloud base or other atmospheric obscurations by emitting a vertical beam of light and detecting the reflection. The time taken for the light pulse to return is used to calculate the distance to the cloud layer. Modern ceilometers often use laser technology for improved accuracy.
