Subcooled

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011511

A liquid whose temperature is below the saturation temperature for its existing pressure, so it is not yet at its boiling point; its pressure therefore exceeds the saturation pressure for that temperature, and it is also called a compressed liquid. In environmental chemistry the word also covers a substance held liquid below its melting point. Water at 25 °C and 1 atm is subcooled, because its saturation temperature at that pressure is 100 °C.
