A quantity from clinical chemistry nomenclature, obtained by dividing the moles of a component present by the total mass of the system containing it. It differs from substance concentration, which divides by volume instead of mass, so it does not change when a sample expands or contracts. Its coherent SI unit is mol/kg, often scaled to mmol/kg or umol/kg.
