Suppressor cell

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013618

A lymphocyte that downregulates the immune response by inhibiting the activity of other immune cells, such as helper T cells or B cells. This historical term has been largely superseded by more specific classifications based on cell surface markers and function. Most cells formerly described as suppressor cells are now identified as a specific subset of T lymphocytes called regulatory T cells (Tregs).
