Synoptic scale

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011764

A spatial scale in atmospheric chemistry that encompasses phenomena with horizontal dimensions ranging from hundreds to thousands of kilometers. This scale is relevant for studying large-scale weather systems and the transport of pollutants over long distances. Weather maps and global climate models typically operate at this scale.
