LIDAR

An acronym for Light Detection and Ranging, a remote sensing method that uses pulsed laser light to measure distances to a target. It is employed to create high-resolution maps and to study atmospheric constituents like aerosols and clouds. LIDAR systems can operate from ground, airborne, or space-based platforms.
