Solid state lasers

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010993

Lasers that use a solid material as the gain medium, typically a crystalline or glass host doped with active ions, such as neodymium or erbium. These lasers are pumped optically by flashlamps or laser diodes to achieve population inversion. They are known for their high power output, narrow linewidths, and ability to operate in continuous wave or pulsed modes, with wavelengths ranging from ultraviolet to infrared.
