Crystal laser

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002753

A laser that uses a crystalline solid as its gain medium, where the active ions are doped into the crystal lattice. The crystal provides a rigid host structure that can efficiently dissipate heat and maintain optical quality. Common examples include Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) and Ti:sapphire lasers, which are used in spectroscopy and materials processing.
