Glass laser
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004892
A type of solid-state laser that uses a glass matrix, such as a silicate or phosphate glass, as the host material for the active gain medium. The glass is doped with ions of a rare-earth element, which provide the energy levels for stimulated emission when optically pumped. A common example is the neodymium-doped glass (Nd:glass) laser, which emits infrared radiation at a wavelength of approximately 1053 nm.
