Taxon

A taxonomic group of any rank, such as a species, genus, family, or order, used in the biological classification of organisms. Each taxon is assigned a formal scientific name and is characterized by a set of shared features. The hierarchical arrangement of taxa reflects evolutionary relationships among organisms.
