Taxocene

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011832

A group of phylogenetically related species that exists within a larger ecological community. This classification is based on evolutionary lineage rather than on ecological function or niche. For instance, all the bird species within a forest community would constitute the avian taxocene, distinguishing them from a guild, which groups species by resource use.
