Ultrasound
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012401
Sound waves with frequencies higher than the upper audible limit of human hearing, typically above 20 kilohertz. In medical applications, ultrasound is used for diagnostic imaging (ultrasonography) and therapeutic purposes, such as tissue heating or cavitation. The high-frequency waves can penetrate tissues and reflect off structures, providing detailed images without ionizing radiation.
