Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012550

The narrow, worm-like structure located at the midline of the cerebellum, connecting its two hemispheres. This region is involved in coordinating posture, locomotion, and balance, as well as controlling eye movements. Because of its role in motor control, the vermis is a site of interest in neurotoxicology studies, as damage from chemical agents like ethanol or heavy metals can lead to ataxia and other movement disorders.
