Volatilizer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012604
An additive mixed into a sample in atomic spectrometry to raise the fraction of analyte, or of another component, that volatilizes. It works either by converting the analyte into more volatile compounds or by enlarging the combined surface area of the analyte particles, through explosive break-up or by spreading the analyte in a very volatile matrix. Converting refractory oxides to more volatile chlorides is a typical example.
