Chemical hydride generation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001948
A technique for converting certain elements into their volatile hydrides for introduction into an atomic spectrometer. The sample, in an acidic solution, is reacted with a reducing agent, most commonly sodium borohydride, to produce the gaseous hydride. Elements that form volatile hydrides with this method include arsenic, selenium, antimony, and tin, which are then swept into the atomizer for measurement.
