Wring
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006670
The torsional twisting of a drill string within a borehole, where the upper section rotates while the lower section, including the bit, remains stationary or rotates more slowly. This phenomenon occurs due to high downhole friction or obstructions, causing the pipe to store rotational energy like a spring. Severe wringing can lead to stick-slip oscillations and ultimately cause a fatigue failure known as a wring-off, where the drill pipe breaks.
