Nolle prosequi

A declaration by a prosecutor in a criminal case, or a plaintiff in a civil case, that they will not proceed with the action. This decision is made before or during trial and results in the termination of the current proceedings. The effect on future prosecution depends on whether the nolle prosequi is entered with or without prejudice.
