Prohibition

A court order forbidding a lower court or tribunal from exceeding its jurisdiction or acting contrary to the rules of natural justice. This writ of prohibition prevents an inferior court from continuing proceedings in a case that falls outside its legal authority. It is a remedy sought in administrative law to control governmental bodies.
