Self-incrimination

The act of exposing oneself to an accusation or charge of crime, or of being forced to do so. The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution protects individuals from being compelled to be a witness against themselves in a criminal case. This privilege applies to testimonial evidence, not physical evidence like fingerprints or DNA.
