Serious health condition

An illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that involves inpatient care or continuing treatment by a health care provider. This condition must require an overnight stay in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical care facility, or involve a period of incapacity requiring absence from work, school, or other regular daily activities. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) defines specific criteria for what constitutes a serious health condition for leave eligibility.
