Vertical privity

A legal relationship between parties in a chain of distribution for a product, extending from the manufacturer down to the ultimate consumer. This concept is relevant in product liability cases, determining who can sue whom for defects. It contrasts with horizontal privity, which involves parties at the same level of distribution.
