Warranty of fitness

An implied warranty in sales law that a product is suitable for the particular purpose for which the buyer intends to use it, provided the seller knows of that purpose and the buyer relies on the seller's skill or judgment. This warranty arises when a buyer communicates a specific need to the seller, and the seller recommends a product to meet that need. It is distinct from the warranty of merchantability, which guarantees general usability.
