Acoustic transponder

A device that receives an acoustic signal and, in response, transmits another acoustic signal. While less common in direct atmospheric sensing, this concept could be applied in specialized atmospheric experiments for tracking or ranging purposes. It functions as an active repeater for sound waves, often used in underwater acoustics.
