Ambiguity function

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003472

A mathematical tool used in radar and sonar signal processing to characterize the resolution of a waveform in both range and Doppler frequency. It describes the response of a matched filter to a delayed and Doppler-shifted version of the transmitted signal. In meteorology, it is applied in Doppler radar systems to understand the trade-offs between range and velocity measurement accuracy.
