Cascade impactor
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004187
An instrument that samples and separates airborne particles into different size fractions based on their inertia. The air sample is drawn through a series of stages, each containing nozzles and a collection plate; progressively smaller and lighter particles are impacted onto plates at successive stages with higher air velocities. This device provides a size-segregated distribution of aerosols for mass or chemical analysis.
