Coherent scattering
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004488
The process where incident electromagnetic radiation interacts with a medium, and the scattered waves maintain a fixed phase relationship with each other and with the incident wave. This type of scattering occurs when the scatterers are much smaller than the wavelength of the incident radiation, such as Rayleigh scattering by atmospheric molecules. It is characterized by a lack of energy loss to the scattering medium.
