Incoherent scattering

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006479

The process where incident radiation interacts with a medium, and the scattered radiation has a random or uncorrelated phase relationship with the incident wave. In atmospheric science, this occurs when electromagnetic waves encounter particles that are randomly distributed or moving independently, such as individual molecules or precipitation. Rayleigh scattering is an example of incoherent scattering.
