Compressibility

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004560

The measure of a fluid's or gas's relative volume change in response to a pressure change. In the atmosphere, air is a compressible fluid, meaning its density varies with pressure and temperature. This property is accounted for in atmospheric models and calculations of hydrostatic balance.
