Diffusive equilibrium

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005015

A state in which the net flux of each component in a mixture due to diffusion is zero, meaning there is no net movement of any substance. This occurs when the concentration gradient of each component is balanced by other forces, such as pressure or gravitational forces. In the upper atmosphere, this state is approached for individual gases above the turbopause.
