Dimensional analysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010475
A conceptual tool used to understand physical systems by examining the relationships between their fundamental physical quantities, such as mass, length, time, and temperature. It involves expressing variables in terms of these base dimensions to check the plausibility of derived equations or to form dimensionless numbers that characterize the system's behavior. The Buckingham Pi theorem provides the formal basis for determining the number of independent dimensionless groups that can be formed from a set of variables.
