Downvalley wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005118
A wind that blows along the axis of a valley from higher to lower elevations, typically occurring at night or in the early morning. This flow is driven by the cooling of air on the valley slopes, which becomes denser and sinks. Downvalley winds are a type of katabatic wind and can transport cold air into lower-lying areas.
