Electric double layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005304
A structure that forms at the interface between two phases, such as a solid surface and an electrolyte solution, consisting of two parallel layers of opposite electric charge. One layer is typically adsorbed to the surface, while the other is a diffuse layer of counter-ions in the fluid. This phenomenon is relevant in atmospheric chemistry for understanding aerosol particle interactions and cloud droplet formation.
