Equatorial vortex

A rotating mass of air or water located near the Earth's equator. These vortices can form in the atmosphere as tropical depressions or in the ocean as mesoscale eddies. Atmospheric equatorial vortices are often precursors to tropical cyclones, while oceanic vortices contribute to the mixing and transport of water properties.
