Green's theorem
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006066
A mathematical relationship that connects a line integral along a simple, closed, piecewise-smooth curve in a plane to a double integral over the region enclosed by that curve. It is a special two-dimensional case of the more general Stokes' theorem. In atmospheric dynamics, the theorem is applied to fluid flow, where it equates the circulation of a two-dimensional wind field around a closed loop with the integral of the vorticity over the area enclosed by that loop.
