Leibniz's theorem of calculus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006917
A mathematical rule for finding the derivative of an integral whose limits of integration are also functions of the variable of differentiation. In atmospheric science, this theorem is applied to derive fundamental conservation equations, such as the continuity equation or the thermodynamic energy equation. It provides the mathematical framework for transforming expressions between a fixed Eulerian reference frame and a moving Lagrangian frame that follows an air parcel.
