Logarithmic differentiation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007025
A mathematical technique for finding the derivative of a function by first taking its natural logarithm and then applying implicit differentiation. This method simplifies the differentiation of functions involving products, quotients, or exponents by converting them into sums, differences, and products. In atmospheric thermodynamics, this technique is applied to derive fundamental relationships like the Poisson equations for adiabatic processes from the first law of thermodynamics.
