Irrotational
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006662
Describing a fluid flow where the curl of the velocity field is zero, indicating an absence of local rotation within the fluid. In meteorology, this concept applies to certain types of atmospheric motion, particularly in regions where large-scale circulations are dominated by divergence or convergence rather than shear. An irrotational flow implies that a small paddle wheel placed in the fluid would not rotate.
