Jacobian
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006735
A determinant of a matrix composed of all first-order partial derivatives of a set of functions with respect to a set of variables. This mathematical tool is used to transform coordinate systems or to analyze the local behavior of a system of equations. In atmospheric science, it often appears in calculations involving changes of variables in fluid dynamics equations.
