Junge aerosol layer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006751

A persistent layer of sulfate aerosols found in the lower stratosphere, primarily between 15 and 25 kilometers altitude. This layer forms from the oxidation of sulfur-containing gases, both natural and anthropogenic, such as carbonyl sulfide and sulfur dioxide. It influences the Earth's radiative balance by scattering incoming solar radiation.
