Living glacier
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007000
A glacier that is actively flowing and deforming under its own weight, indicating that it is still accumulating and ablating ice. This contrasts with a 'dead' or stagnant glacier, which has ceased to flow and is simply melting in place. The movement of a living glacier can be observed through changes in its surface features and the transport of debris.
