Luminance
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007060
A photometric quantity that quantifies the amount of visible light emitted, transmitted, or reflected from a given surface per unit solid angle and per unit projected area. It describes the perceived brightness of an object to a human observer, taking into account the sensitivity of the eye to different wavelengths of light. The standard unit for luminance is the candela per square meter (cd/m²), sometimes referred to as a nit.
