Luminescence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007061
The emission of light by a substance not resulting from heat, but rather from chemical reactions, electrical energy, or other non-thermal processes. This phenomenon includes fluorescence and phosphorescence, where absorbed energy is re-emitted as visible light. It is distinct from incandescence, which is light produced by high temperatures.
