Microlayer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007276
The thin boundary layer at the interface between the atmosphere and a water surface, with a thickness measured in micrometers to millimeters. This layer has distinct physical, chemical, and biological properties compared to the underlying bulk water. The sea-surface microlayer influences the rate of gas exchange, such as the transfer of carbon dioxide, between the ocean and the atmosphere.
