Multivariate objective analysis

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007462

A statistical technique used in meteorology to optimally combine observations of multiple atmospheric variables with a background forecast to produce a spatially continuous and dynamically consistent analysis. This method accounts for the statistical correlations between different variables, such as temperature, wind, and pressure, and their respective error characteristics. It aims to produce a more accurate and balanced initial state for numerical weather prediction models.
