Rest mass
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008542
The intrinsic mass of a particle or object as measured in a frame of reference where it is stationary. In atmospheric physics, this is the fundamental mass property of molecules like nitrogen, oxygen, and water vapor used in thermodynamic and dynamic calculations. While atmospheric motions are non-relativistic, the concept is foundational for the equations of state and conservation of mass that govern atmospheric models.
