Slope area method

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008938

A technique used in hydrology to estimate peak discharge in rivers and streams, particularly after floods, by analyzing the hydraulic characteristics of a channel. It involves measuring the cross-sectional area and slope of the water surface at several points along a reach. This method relies on Manning's equation to calculate flow velocity and is often applied when direct discharge measurements are unavailable.
