Spectral diffusivity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009098

A turbulent diffusivity expressed as a function of wavenumber instead of a single constant, so that eddies of different sizes mix a diffusing scalar at different rates. It is used to generalize K-theory in plume dispersion models, where only eddies comparable to or smaller than the plume contribute to its spread, and it replaces the constant eddy diffusivity of ordinary gradient-transport closure.
