Thermocouple
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009603
A sensor for measuring temperature consisting of two wires of dissimilar metals joined at one end, the sensing junction. A temperature difference between this junction and the other end of the wires produces a small voltage, known as the Seebeck effect, which is proportional to the temperature. This device is valued for its wide measurement range, from cryogenic levels to over 2000°C, and its rapid response time, making it suitable for measuring fast-changing atmospheric temperatures.
