Wind-driven current
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010277
An ocean current generated by the transfer of momentum from the wind to the sea surface. The frictional drag of the wind on the water creates a surface current, which then influences deeper layers through internal friction and the Coriolis effect. These currents are a primary component of the upper ocean circulation, such as the Ekman spiral.
